About Us

Our Mission

Our mission at The Country Canner is to create the most unique collection of specialty food products around while providing a pleasant and memorable experience for our customers.

Our History

In the fall of 1996 two Shenandoah Valley Couples, Joe & Ruth Shank and Bob & Miriam Shenk, decided to start the Country Canner which was officially opened in November of 1996.  They started by making apple butter, a few jams and jellies, pickles, relishes, and apple pie filling (Our Aunt Ruth's mixed pickle is a recipe of Ruth Shank's).  They continued to add more products as the business grew, and today we make approximately 180 different kinds of products.  In 1998 Joe & Ruth made the decision to retire so Bob & Miriam continued to run and expand the business.  In 2007, Bob & Miriam's daughter Carol and son-in-law Mark Weaver joined the business and are continuing the tradition today!

Our Products

Apple butter, strawberry jam, and mango jam on our sample wheel at The Country Canner.    The jams and jellies that we create are just a few of the varieties that we are famous for.  We have been hard at work since 1996 creating all sorts of canned delights.  From Pie fillings to pickles and relishes, we make it all. And if you can't find what your looking for, make a request, we just might try it out!  As our business grows we will continue to expand our unique line of products with different flavor offerings and new product lines.

Our Location

The Country Canner is located at the Shenandoah Heritage Market in Harrisonburg Virginia.  Situated between I-81 and route 11, the Shenandoah Heritage Market is the perfect location to spend an afternoon of shopping.  You will know you have arrived when you see the two 110 foot tall yellow windmills that mark the location.
